Breaking news:Insider gives encouraging Jaxson Robinson update if he returns to school
Sounds like the Cats are in a good spot if Robinson stays in school.
Mark Pope and the Kentucky Wildcats have two scholarships remaining as they look to fill out the roster for the 2024-25 season.
Several names have gotten a lot of buzz recently, but one has been tied to the Cats since Pope was announced as the new Head Coach in Lexington.
That player would be Jaxson Robinson.
Currently going through the NBA Draft process, Robinson burst onto the scene for BYU last season, which has got him projected as a mid-to-late second-round pick in the NBA Draft next month. That projection has, however, left a question among the BBN and most college basketball circles: Will Robinson keep his name in the draft?
If he does withdraw by the deadline of May 29th, things for Kentucky continue to go in the right direction, albeit that question appears to remain open.
A report by Sarah Todd of Deseret News claims that multiple people with knowledge of the matter strongly believe that Kentucky has a good chance of obtaining Robinson.
According to Todd, “many people familiar with the matter told the Deseret News that they fully anticipate Robinson to be playing for Kentucky next season if he decides to withdraw from the draft.”
Though Kentucky will undoubtedly remain a significant force, it’s important to note that the Kansas Jayhawks are now viewed as a serious competitor for Robinson should he decide to return to school.
Robinson and guard Chaz Lanier, a transfer from North Florida, seem to have the greatest momentum right now to claim one of the remaining roster places. When one of them is added, Coach Pope and his staff have added a reliable scorer to the lineup, bolstering it even further.
It may come to this where Kentucky demands a commitment from the first person who is prepared to make one. Furthermore, Lanier is currently more likely to decide first, so there’s a chance Kentucky signs him and Robinson goes back to school later before signing with Kansas.
