NFL insider reveals why New England Patriots feel ‘jaded’ with Buffalo Bills

Shortly after the conclusion of the 2024 NFL Draft, we learned that the Buffalo Bills rejected a trade with the New England Patriots for the No. 32 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

New England was reportedly targeting Xavier Legette or Keon Coleman. Legette landed with the Carolina Panthers at pick 32, and Buffalo would kick off night two of the draft selecting Keon Coleman.

With their top two options off the board, New England ultimately traded down from pick 34. They would land Ja’Lynn Polk with their second round pick and Javon Baker with a fourth round pick that they acquired in the trade down. While the Patriots were still able to land two potential weapons for Drake Maye, NFL insider Cameron Wolfe reported that the Patriots felt jaded with the Bills.

In an appearance on Pats Daily with Taylor Kyles, Wolfe revealed that the Patriots were not happy about how What transpired at the conclusion of Round 1. According to Wolfe, Buffalo is believed by New England to have manipulated the Patriots’ trade agreement with the Panthers in order to secure a deal for the No. 32 pick.

“I spoke with a Patriots team member who felt a little cynical because they felt they had a deal with the Bills that was, sort of, almost complete on paper, and they feel that deal was kind of shopped to the Panthers because the Panthers are in a relationship with Buffalo,” Wolfe said. “Brandon Beane and Dan Morgan have that connection. To be honest, the Bills dropped less points. They’re not assisting the other division. I see now, they’re not being helpful. a division competitor, and they are able to lose a rank while maintaining some significance.

“It’s possible that the Bills, who required a receiver as well, had their sights set on both of those receivers and decided to trade back because, well, we don’t care and we’ll get more value,” Wolfe continued. However, in the end, the Patriots were unable to trade up there, thus Legette and Coleman, their top two picks, were selected there. This was not the kind of situation you hear all the time—”Hey, we got the guy we wanted, he was going to be our pick no matter what.” It just wasn’t meant to be for the Patriots to have Xavier Legette or Keon Coleman.

The Patriots landed two solid receivers in the draft, but the Bills and Panthers prevented them from getting “their guy.”
