David Moyes is heading for the exit after his farewell tour took another “disastrous” turn as West Ham lost 5-0 to Chelsea on Sunday (5 May), Kieran Gill has said.
According to The Guardian [3 May], the Hammers are nearing a deal to replace Moyes with Julen Lopetegui, an appointment that could be announced as early as this week.
With only one home match left in the Premier League, when West Ham hosted Luton Town at the London Stadium on May 5, the team suffered yet another heartbreaking defeat at Stamford Bridge.
Gill wrote the following on Monday, May 6, page 7 of The Verdict, a section of the Daily Mail: “With Moyes scheduled to leave West Ham this summer, one fan in the away end sacrificed a bedsheet to show his appreciation.”

The Scot has the perfect opportunity to finish his second tenure at the club on a high, as West Ham near a deal to replace him as manager.
The Hammers have experienced some wonderful memories in recent seasons, all thanks to the leadership and guidance of Moyes, leading the club to their first European trophy in decades.
The present manager can only enjoy that glory for a limited amount of time, despite this. Since football is a results-based sport, the Premier League and other domestic competitions have seen extremely underwhelming performances.
The recent 5-2 loss to Crystal Palace last month is only the beginning for this team; the 5-0 loss to Chelsea is just the beginning. But Hammers supporters can make the penultimate game of the season a goodbye party because there is nothing left to play for.
