Amon-Ra St. Brown has surpassed the Rams’ Cooper Kupp and the Dolphins’ Tyreek Hill as the highest-paid wide receiver in the NFL after agreeing to a $120million, four-year contract extension with the Detroit Lions.
Had he not signed the agreement on Wednesday, St. Brown, 24, who finished as the third-best wide receiver in the 2023 NFL season, would have been eligible to become a free agency at the conclusion of the 2024 campaign. Given that St. Brown will now have to wait until 2029 to become a free agent, the agreement comes with a $77 million guarantee.
In terms of pay, his new deal places him on pace with Super Bowl champions Hill and Kupp, two elite receivers. Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reports that St. Brown and Hill have the highest receiving compensation of $30 million a year.
The guaranteed money supplants the $75million offered to Kupp by the Rams.

St. Brown, who was about to start his last rookie season, was selected by Detroit with the 112th overall choice in the fourth round of the 2021 draft out of USC.
Last season, he was a Pro Bowler and All-Pro, helping the Lions win two playoff games in a single season for the first time since winning the NFL championship in 1957. It was also the first division title the team had won in thirty years.
Last season, St. Brown set career highs with 119 receptions, 1,515 receiving yards, and 10 touchdowns. He has 315 catches for 3,588 yards and 21 receiving touchdowns in three seasons.
According to sources, the Lions also revealed new terms on a four-year, $112 million contract with offensive tackle Penei Sewell on Wednesday.
Brad Holmes, the general manager of Detroit, selected Sewell with the team’s first pick in 2021, selecting him out of Oregon at number seven overall.
Sewell, who was selected to the All-Pro team the previous season, has proven to be a reliable player over the course of his three-year career. He has started all three postseason games and 50 regular-season games as the Lions advanced to the NFC championship game for the first time since 1991.
With the 29th overall pick in the first round, Detroit is the host city for the NFL draft, which gets underway this Thursday night.
