‘He can become the GOAT’: Pundit suggests ‘incredible’ player made a mistake joining Tottenham
Tottenham Hotspur have changed a lot over the last year.
Since the conclusion of the previous season, Spurs’ recruitment has significantly improved, and they are no longer known for being a bad transfer team.
After bringing in Ange Postecoglou in the summer of last year, Tottenham has added quality players like James Maddison, Guglielmo Vicario, and Micky van de Ven.
There has also been a clear emphasis on youth. Ashley Phillips, Lucas Bergvall, and Luka Vušković are just a few of the players Spurs signed that are thought to be enormous future stars.
Now, a pundit has opined that one player’s decision to sign with Tottenham was a mistake.
Pundit says Lucas Bergvall made a mistake joining Tottenham because of James Maddison
Tottenham were among very few clubs to be active in the January transfer window.
Spurs signed Radu Dragusin from Genoa and Timo Werner on loan from RB Leipzig. The other deal they secured was for young Lucas Bergvall.
The teenager looked like he was on his way to Barcelona, but Tottenham hijacked that deal in the last minute and convinced the youngster to make the move to North London.
While many Tottenham supporters are eager to watch how Bergvall performs when he visits the team this summer, the former Sweden international and current pundit has voiced his concerns.
Because Bergvall won’t be James Maddison’s replacement in the starting lineup, Martin Åslund has said that Bergvall made a mistake by joining Tottenham.
He has also stated that the young player won’t thrive at Tottenham but would eventually wind up in one of the Benelux nations, most likely Belgium or the Netherlands, and become the GOAT there.
On Studio Allsvenskan, Åslund stated: “I believe he will be a very good national team player.” I believe he joins a top Benelux team, where he can establish himself as the greatest player of all time, or GOAT.
“Will he replace James Maddison at Tottenham? I hope I’m wrong and that he does, but I don’t think so. People take what I say the wrong way, Lucas is an incredible footballer. If you see how Bergvall plays football, he is an opportunist, he often does the difficult things.
“If you’re going to play in the Premier League and have that role, you have to check which other players have it, how many Swedish players have that role? There are extremely few, so then Lucas Bergvall must become one of the best players in Swedish history.
“Am I sure he will be? No, I don’t think so.”
What Johan Lange has said about Lucas Bergvall is very interesting
Although Lucas Bergvall is a tremendous talent, Martin Åslund’s prognosis about him won’t inspire much confidence in Tottenham supporters.
If you’re just good enough to play in Belgium and the Netherlands, Barcelona won’t want to sign you.
Johan Lange, the guy who closed the transfer, has already given his assessment of Bergvall, and Tottenham has a very exciting talent on their hands.
To the amazement of many, the sporting director of Tottenham declared that Bergvall will join Ange Postecoglou’s first team right away.
Since Bergvall has never played in a top-five league, it’s interesting that this rules out a summer loan move.
“Lucas is a very mature player despite only being 18,” Lange remarked. He is a box-to-box midfielder with excellent ball control, excellent work ethic, and a strong work rate.
“He has a wonderful family and support system surrounding him, and he is a mature individual. He will join the first team squad in the summer and has a lot of promise.
