‘I can’t believe what I’ve seen’ – King blasts ‘Terrible’ Tottenham star after loss v Newcastle
Bryan King has blasted James Maddison for his off-the-ball antics against Newcastle United while describing the midfielder’s overall display against the Magpies as “terrible”.
The former Spurs scout believes that throughout the last several weeks, the 27-year-old hasn’t been at his best.
On Saturday, April 13, Maddison struggled once more as Newcastle beat Tottenham 4-0 at St. James’ Park.
After knocking down Anthony Gordon in the first half, he was maybe fortunate to escape a card, but he still had cause to be upset with the referee when Dan Burn was also given a warning for a foul of his own on the Tottenham player.
Additionally, King, who is only speaking to Tottenham News, believes that Maddison would be best served by focusing on his football career.
King remarked, “To be honest, I can’t believe what I’ve seen from Madison in recent weeks—he was getting drawn into stuff again.”
“He is not performing to the level we know he is capable of, and he is not playing well at all.
Because he was more interested in what was going on off the ball, he produced relatively little. He played terribly all around.
It’s unbelievable that he was attempting to argue that he didn’t foul Gordon—it was an awful challenge that was crystal clear. He’s fortunate not to have been booked since he would have been substituted off during the second half.

Tottenham and Ange Postecoglou need more from James Maddison
It has been a while since Maddison has performed consistently for Spurs.
Before his injury, the ex-Leicester City man was one of the Premier League’s most in-form players, but things just haven’t clicked since his return to action.
While he might have needed some time to readjust, most Spurs supporters would argue that enough time has now passed, with the midfielder’s decline in form becoming something of a concern.
With games against Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool to come, Ange Postecoglou will need Maddison back at his best sooner rather than later.
