Although his Golden State Warriors bested the Los Angeles Lakers in the latter’s building last night by a significant margin, 134-120, recently-extended head coach Steve Kerr revealed afterwards that he was still less-than-enthused about his team’s performance, per Greg Beachem of The Associated Press (via NBA.com).
“I didn’t feel like we played that well, but we made a million 3s,” Kerr said. “The ball was going in, but I didn’t think we were sharp. A lot of possessions where we weren’t just quite locked in and we were a little bit disjointed, but the ball kept going in. … To shoot 63% from 3, that’s crazy.”
The Lakers, meanwhile, shot a totally respectable 12-of-35 from deep (34.3%). LA was sorely missing All-Star center Anthony Davis, who sat out with a headache and nausea following a left eye injury he incurred Sunday against Minnesota Timberwolves forward Kyle Anderson.
Is this gamesmanship ahead of a potential play-in matchup? The two clubs are neck-and-neck in the bottom of the Western Conference play-in bracket. The 44-35 Warriors, winners of eight of their last nine contests, are gaining steam on the 45-35 Lakers. Golden State is now also 3-1 against LA this season, meaning it owns the two teams’ tiebreaker if they finish with the same record.
