Report: Steelers are now favored to land quarterback Russell Wilson
According to DraftKings Sportsbook, the Pittsburgh Steelers are now the odds on favorites to land quarterback Russell Wilson.
The Pittsburgh Steelers are now strong favorites to sign Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson, per DraftKings Sportsbook. They posted a graphic on Twitter with the opening line of (+1400), which is quite modest odds, and they are currently the clear favorites to land him at (-110).
Could Wilson move to Steel City and challenge Kenny Pickett for the starting quarterback position for the Steelers?
As we know, Wilson is likely to be released by the Broncos in the coming days and weeks so his potential suitors are beginning to gain recognition. The Pittsburgh Steelers are one team that is anticipated to be involved in the veteran quarterback market. Despite having Kenny Pickett, Mitch Trubisky, and Mason Rudolph at center for them this past season, they have a really decent squad and coaching staff that helped them make it to the semifinals. So Wilson would still be an improvement for them despite his declining play.
Now, Wilson is not the only Steelers connection. The Packers were the clear favorites to acquire Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields, according to DraftKings Sportsbook.
All of this seems to be fueled by Adam Schefter who recently appeared on The Pat McAfee Show and connected Wilson and Fields to the Steelers.
“We know the Pittsburgh [Steelers] is gonna go out and get some type of quarterback,” Schefter said. “Whether that’s Ryan Tannehill, whether that’s Russell Wilson, whether that’s Justin Fields. Mike Tomlin’s a big fan of Justin Fields. We’ll keep that in mind during the offseason and the coming weeks.”
Anytime we see big shifts like this from Vegas, it is noteworthy and something to keep an eye on moving ahead. Wilson may be visiting soon, as he has been seen “quietly shopping” in the property he purchased after being traded to the Broncos. If so, it appears the Steelers will take the seasoned signal-caller under consideration for a contract.
In the end, it appears that Wilson will not be staying in Denver much longer. Not surprisingly, there was some discussion late on the prospect of the two sides working out their differences. But it appears that a divorce is necessary. If that’s the case, Russell Wilson may don black and yellow throughout the next campaign.
The Steelers will visit Mile High to play the Broncos the following season.
