“Just too much” – Pundit questions £10m Spurs price tag as Leeds United plot move

According to Football Insider, Tottenham Hotspur have set a price tag between £10m to £15m for the centre-back amid interest in a permanent transfer from the Championship side.

The Wales international has cemented himself as a key figure in Daniel Farke’s side, featuring consistently in the team since joining in the summer.

The club’s promotion challenge could yet determine the player’s future, with Leeds fighting for a top two spot in the Championship.

The Whites have no option to buy the player, so will need to negotiate a permanent deal with Spurs in the summer if they want to keep him at the club beyond this loan spell.

Carlton Palmer: “The conversation needs to be had”

Carlton Palmer has praised the impact Rodon has had at Leeds since making the switch to Elland Road in the summer.

The club should try to reduce the asking price down to seven figures, he feels, as the £10–15 million asking price is a little too high.

Palmer told Football League World, “It’s reported that Spurs are asking £10 to 15 million for Joe Rodon.”

Joe is presently playing on loan at Leeds United, where he is enjoying a great season and the team is performing well.

Spurs are interested in that kind of money because there was no price agreed upon when he went on loan and he is performing incredibly well.

Will he rejoin the Spurs and play for them again? No, he won’t.

“I think £10 to 15 million is a lot, a lot of money, so at the end of the season Leeds United are going to have a look at when they get promoted, see where they see it at.

“I think [Rodon’s value] is about £8 million.

“£10m to £15m is just too much.

“But I think, at the end of the season, should Leeds get promoted, then the conversation needs to be had.

“He’s done really, really well at Leeds and I think he can step up and play in the Premier League, I really, really do.”

Leeds will be aiming to fight for promotion straight back to the top flight at the first time of asking.

That should help their chances of retaining Rodon beyond this campaign.

Farke’s side currently sit third in the Championship table, one point behind second place Southampton, but the Yorkshire outfit has played a game more than their promotion rivals.

Next up for Leeds is a trip away to Swansea City this evening.

Pursuing permanent Rodon deal makes total sense

Rodon has been a standout figure for Leeds this season and is one of the first names on the team sheet.

If they feel they can negotiate a deal with Tottenham in the summer, then they must take that chance.

Rodon will surely prefer to be playing in the Premier League, but it is unlikely Ange Postecoglou has much use for him in his squad, so sticking with Leeds may be his best bet regardless of their league status.

The 26-year-old has found somewhere to revive his career after a difficult couple of seasons in London, and his real priority should be sticking with Farke’s side.
