Tottenham technical director Johan Lange gives shocking transfer update
Spurs last week beat Barcelona to the signing of Lucas Bergvall and Johan Lange says such deals are just the beginning
According to Tottenham technical director Johann Lange, the team aspires to be a top draw for the top young players in the globe.
Spurs achieved a significant coup last week when they signed Swedish sensation Lucas Bergvall, who will join Ange Postecoglou’s first team squad in the summer, defeating Barcelona in the transfer window.
Postecoglou expressed his desire that Spurs will become “the preferred destination” for gifted youth, a sentiment that Lange, who is enthusiastic about Bergvall’s potential, has echoed.
Aked about the teenager, Lange said: “First of all we want to be a destination for the best young talent out there.
“That can be talent coming into our academy in the foundation phase, or later being developed [when] coming through the academy. Or, as in the case, of Lucas it can be a player we decide to try to buy from a club abroad, in this case Djugardens.
“Lucas is a very mature player, despite just turning 18. He’s a box-to-box midfielder, very good in possession, been able to control the game and the same out of possession, he has a good work rate.
“He’s a mature person for his age. In addition, he is surrounded by a strong family and support system. He has a lot of potential. He will become a member of the first team squad in the summer. However, he must just adjust to this new setting and proceed cautiously.”
In a quiet January transfer window, Spurs were among the busiest top teams, bringing in defender Radu Dragusin from Genoa and Timo Werner on loan from RB Leipzig.
Lange asserted that the team as a whole is fully aligned with the market and stated that the personalities of new recruits are just as significant as their on-field abilities.
