James Maddison and Giovani Lo Celso sends message to Tottenham’s Heung-min Son after what happened this week
Tottenham captain Heung-min Son’s Asian Cup dream came to an end this week, and James Maddison and Giovani Lo Celso have sent him messages on Instagram.
South Korea crashed out of the competition after a shock 2-0 defeat at the hands of Jordan this week. Skipper Son, as you would expect, is heartbroken and has apologised to his country’s fans after his ‘scary and sad’ return to Tottenham.

Heung-min Son‘s South Korea were among the favourites to win the Asian Cup this year.
Jurgen Klinsmann‘s side have a solid squad, and they began the competition in style, picking up a 3-1 win over Bahrain in the opening game. Then, they had to settle for back-to-back draws against Jordan and Malaysia – Son scored against both of them.
South Korea weren’t at their usual level as they headed into the knockout stages, but they managed to pick up hard-fought wins over Saudi Arabia on penalties and Australia after extra-time.
Just when it looked like they would go all the way, they were stunned by Jordan, and that brought an end to their dreams of winning the title.
Skipper Son was heartbroken and took to Instagram to apologise to fans. He claimed it was ‘scary and sad to walk back to London’ after what happened against Jordan.
“It was scary and sad to walk back to London after the match, but we arrived safely. I guess I wasn’t good enough as captain and didn’t lead the team well,” he wrote.
“I was so proud of being a Korean football player because of your love and support even in this situation. Thank you and I am sorry.”
The £22 million (Guardian) Tottenham man received a lot of love in the replies under his post, with James Maddison and Giovani Lo Celso both sending him messages.
Maddison wrote “Love you brother,” while Lo Celso commented: “We are waiting for you my friend!”
Son’s return is a huge boost for Tottenham
There were a lot of questions asked of Tottenham when Heung-min Son left the club to take part in the Asian Cup last month. Many expected Spurs to struggle without their skipper.
However, Tottenham held their own. They suffered just one defeat in five games without Son – that was against Manchester City in the FA Cup.
Spurs are in a fantastic position now, and Son’s return is a humongous boost. They will be even stronger and could go on an excellent run in the Premier League in the coming weeks.
Tottenham take on Brighton next in what could be a tricky game. It will be interesting to see if Ange Postecoglou will bring Son straight back into the starting lineup
