‘I’m very sorry’ – Tottenham star apologises to supporters ahead of Spurs return
Son Heung-min has apologised to South Korean football fans after the nation was knocked out of the Asian Cup by Jordan at the semi-final stage this evening.
With the way the tournament had shaped up, with the likes of Japan and Saudi Arabia being eliminated before
the Asian Cup back to Korea for the first time since 1960, the Koreans would have seen the semi-finals as a great chance.
Their wait will now have to last for at least four more years, though, as Jordan secured their spot in the championship final. The West Asian team won 2-0 thanks to goals from Montpellier’s Musa Al-Taamari and Al-Ahli’s Yazan Al-Naimat.
Even though Son’s tournament run ended in misery, Spurs supporters can take solace in the fact that the 31-year-old will now return to London and should be eligible for Saturday’s Premier League matchup against Brighton.

The Tottenham man was visibly distraught and apologised to the Korean fans for not being able to able to go all the way.
Son told Coupang Play (6/2/24 – 17:18) after the full-time whistle: “I don’t know what to say really. I am so sorry. The players did their best. I’m very sorry that the game is ended like this by mistake.
“We received a lot of support from the fans. We apologize for not meeting their expectations, and we will work even harder in the future to help the national team advance. Again, we sincerely apologize.”
This is a severe setback for Sonny, who will be 35 years old when the next Asian Cup tournament takes place, and he may feel that this is his only chance to win a significant trophy with his nation.
The forward could use a goal on Saturday to get over this setback, but I’m confident the Tottenham players will find a way to get past him.
