‘No real interest’: £50m player decides he doesn’t want to join Tottenham before the deadline –
Dean Jones has claimed that Conor Gallagher has ‘no real interest’ in leaving Chelsea to join Tottenham Hotspur ahead of tomorrow’s deadline.
Tottenham continue to be linked with a late swoop to sign the Chelsea midfielder, with the Blues reportedly willing to sell their academy product.
It was claimed yesterday that Chelsea would consider offers worth around £50 million to sell Conor Gallagher this week.
Gallagher has played a key role at Stamford Bridge under Mauricio Pochettino this term. The 23-year-old has even captained the Blues regularly in Reece James’ absence and a move to Spurs would certainly be a controversial one.
But according to Jones, Gallagher is keen to stay at Stamford Bridge beyond tomorrow’s deadline.
Gallagher has ‘no real interest’ in joining Tottenham
Speaking to GiveMeSport, Jones claimed that Gallagher has no interest in making the move across London at the moment.
“The chances get slimmer every day obviously,” the journalist said. “Tottenham are trying to avoid their reputation of days of old where they would go into the transfer market on the final couple of days, and kind of be persuaded to make bids that they might try to avoid any other stage.
“Ultimately, I think that there is a temptation to sign Conor Gallagher but it is not likely at this stage I think is how I’d put it. Chelsea might listen to an offer but as it stands, Gallagher has no real interest in joining Tottenham, he wants to stay at Chelsea.
“They’re in a cup final next month, he is an ever-present in the team, he’s captain at times. I personally don’t think Conor Gallagher will be leaving.”
It seems sense that Gallagher wants to play for Chelsea through the end of the season.
Pochettino’s team has already secured a spot in the Carabao Cup final, and he has made frequent appearances this season.
Given that he still has 18 months left on his contract, you would think the midfield player would be more likely to decide on his future in the summer.
Spurs will be hurt because Ange Postecoglou is rumored to be a big fan of the player.
Even still, the Australian has already said that any deals made before tomorrow’s deadline are “unlikely,” and it looks like Tottenham is gearing up for a busy summer transfer season.
