Seth McLaughlin talks moving on from bad snaps at Alabama, transfer to Ohio State
When Alabama football fans last saw Seth McLaughlin, he was struggling to snap the ball throughout the Crimson Tide’s Rose Bowl loss to Michigan. Since that game, McLaughlin entered the transfer portal, heading to Ohio State.
When he was questioned by media there on Tuesday, he addressed the snap problems that he had during that game and the 2023 campaign.
According to McLaughlin, “After you have a bad one, you kind of start thinking about, ‘OK, I’ve got to get this right,'” in a video that Eleven Warriors uploaded. “I don’t believe that I was having mental difficulties; it just happened. I’m not really sure what was going on or what caused it, but that’s in the past now, and I want to go on.
McLaughlin snapped a low pass toward Jalen Milroe on the game’s last play, with the Crimson Tide needing a score from close range to send the College Football Playoff game into double OT. The season was finished for the Alabama Tide when their quarterback went down short of the goal line.
McLaughlin refused to talk to reporters in the locker room following the game. Following the season, he received harsh criticism from Alabama supporters.
He claimed that he had to examine himself after his troubles with snapping.
“I can’t control what happened in the past,” McLaughlin said. “I can’t control what happened in the game, I can’t control the public reaction to that. But I’m here now. I’m in a great place to continue my development and play for an incredible program, play for incredible coaches. Really I’m very positive. I have no negative feelings about what happened.”
McLaughlin will play for Bill O’Brien, Ohio State’s offensive coordinator, with whom he previously worked at Alabama. McLaughlin expressed his gratitude for his experiences in Alabama and stated that UA will always be his alma mater.
Nevertheless, he was looking forward to Columbus.
McLaughlin declared, “I think Ohio State is one of the best college football programs.” “I thought I wanted to go to another similar place that’s always competing to win championships and has great coaching and great development coming from a place like Alabama.”
