‘Frightened’… Pundit claims one Spurs player was actually afraid of £175k-a-week Man City star on Friday
Tony Cascarino has suggested Tottenham Hotspur forward Timo Werner was ‘frightened’ of Manchester City defender Kyle Walker during Friday night’s fourth round FA Cup clash.
City ran out 1-0 winners at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to book their place in the fifth round, with the tremendous Nathan Ake grabbing a late goal.
It is the first time City have beaten Spurs at their new stadium and the first time they have even scored a goal.
City were deserved winners, having dominated the ball and fashioned more chances in north London.
Ultimately, it was poor goalkeeping that led to the breakthrough, with Ruben Dias merely standing his ground against Guglielmo Vicario before Ake turned it in.
Spurs were completely restricted in an attacking sense thanks to some superb defending from City – and Cascarino believes Kyle Walker actually struck fear into Werner…

Yesterday, Cascarino appeared on talkSPORT to talk about the game between Spurs and City.
Although the scoreline was only 1-0, City were very comfortable in the game and this time around, there did not feel any real danger of Spurs scoring.
City were solid all across the back, and Walker locked down the right side.
He was up against Werner, who has just signed for Spurs on loan from RB Leipzig, and the German might have been a threat with his pace. But didn’t get at the England international much, and the one time he did get in, Walker recovered rapidly to get back, snuff out the danger and win a foul.
Cascarino said: “Timo Werner on the other side, honestly Nat, he was frightened of Kyle Walker. When you’re up against Kyle Walker you know what he is, he’s incredibly strong and quick. Timo Werner’s quick, but he stood out on the left side, and was never, ever a threat.
“He actually looked worse than what he was at Chelsea. He looked frightened to death of Kyle Walker.”
Walker is a formidable opponent
Werner really struggled up against Kyle Walker on Friday but he isn’t the first and will not be the last.
Walker has struggled at times this season, but he remains a formidable full-back who many wingers will still fear coming up against.
The 33-year-old still has an incredible turn of pace and also has the strength to boot. Those qualities make getting past him a serious challenge, and there is always a great chance Walker will get back in even if you do get past him momentarily.
The £175,000-a-week man just totally nullified Werner on Friday night, and it was good to see Walker being generally a bit more solid.
