Tottenham to do ‘everything’ needed to sign thriving midfielder Postecoglou loves, as price tag revealed
Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly willing to do ‘everything possible’ to sign Sebastian Szymanski, the attacking midfielder who is enjoying a fantastic season at Fenerbahce.
Szymanski is a Poland international who spent time in the Legia Warsaw academy before landing at Dynamo Moscow. After shining in Russia, the playmaker earned a loan transfer to Feyenoord in July 2022.
In 40 games, he contributed 10 goals and 7 assists, helping the Dutch team win the Eredivisie title and advance to the Dutch Cup semifinals and the Europa League quarterfinals.
Unsurprisingly, Szymanski was connected to a permanent transfer to Feyenoord; but, in the summer, he chose to sign a contract with Fenerbahce for €9.75 million (£8.3 million).
Since then, he has excelled, recording 12 goals and 14 assists in 33 games. That includes goals in the Europa Conference League against FC Twente and Super Lig matches against Besiktas and Istanbul Basaksehir.
Turkey-based media claim that Szymanski’s impressive campaign has put him on Tottenham’s radar.
Tottenham ‘would do everything possible’ to sign the 24-year-old and pair him with Ange Postecoglou, according to reports. The manager believes Szymanski would bring a lot of creativity and menace to the Tottenham team and is “very keen” to get him.
Scouts were told by Postecoglou to see the player in action during Fenerbahce’s league matchup with Samsunspor on Sunday. Szymanski didn’t score or provide an assist in the 1-1 draw, thus it wasn’t his greatest game. Spurs officials will now gather information about him, but given his strong play in previous games, it appears that he will soon become a key target.
Tottenham gunning for Fenerbahce raid
The amount that the North London team will have to pay in order to reach a deal with Fenerbahce has also been found. The Turkish powerhouses have set Szymanski’s price tag at €35 million (£30 million), hoping to turn a healthy profit when he departs.
Spurs have been linked to a number of midfield players recently, not only Szymanski. Conor Gallagher, a star for Chelsea, is greatly admired by them, even though Mauricio Pochettino’s team has no plans to sell this month.
Spurs now have their sights set on Szymanski, with Blackburn Rovers’ Adam Wharton serving as a backup.
