Report :Alabama Losing Top Freshman QB Julian Sayin to Transfer Portal, per Report
Alabama freshman quarterback Julian Sayin has entered the transfer portal less than two weeks after Nick Saban’s retirement, ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported Friday morning.
The 18-year-old from Carlsbad, Calif., initially chose Alabama over LSU, Texas and Ohio State when he first committed.
Sayin is one of the top-ranked quarterbacks in the 2024 national class, according to several media outlets. The freshman enrolled early at Alabama, as he first started taking classes this month with the intent to be ready for the 2024 season.
But according to Thamel, Sayin mostly decided to play for Alabama because of Saban, therefore the coaching change was the driving force behind this choice. After completing his redshirt freshman season, Austin Mack, the quarterback for Alabama, will be coming to Tuscaloosa with his new coach, Kalen DeBoer, from Washington.
According to reports, Julian Sayin, Alabama’s top quarterback recruit for 2024, transferred through the transfer site.
Following the team’s coaching change, Alabama has seen a number of players, including sophomore wide receiver Isaiah Bond and rookie safety Caleb Downs, use the transfer portal. Although Saban is still anticipated to be involved with the program, athletes are now looking into their choices through the transfer portal as a result of his coaching retirement.
