The Alabama Crimson Tide are undergoing a significant change. Numerous current players were faced with a difficult choice following the retirement of great coach Nick Saban. Alabama Loses CB Antonio Kite To The Transfer Portal

Kite was a part of the 2022 recruiting class but redshirted his first year. He did appear in seven games this season but was mostly a special teams player. This isn’t surprising, as the Crimson Tide were very deep at the position and had a couple of first-round talents starting. Kite will have three years of eligibility left. He is only the third player from the program to enter the portal, but we will likely see more in the coming weeks.

Concern For The Program?

While it is never nice to see players go, this is also to be expected. The coach plays a major role in recruiting. Participants attend programs to work with specific coaches. There’s a sharp decline in the willingness to stay when that coach departs. There are many programs in college football today that can draw elite players. Because the player can transfer again the following year, the portal’s design facilitates decision-making. Players are prone to follow their new coach, so it will be interesting to watch who Kalen DeBoer, the new head coach, brings in.

In 2024, will Alabama still be in the SEC? It can take a season or two for a new coach to settle in, so supporters might wish to lower their expectations.
