Oh no, sorry! Owen Farrell is seen being begged by a teenage Saracens supporter not to join Racing 92, a French powerhouse, before leaving the team.
After Saracens’ 19-10 loss to Leicester Tigers at Welford Road, photos of the child supporter holding a sign that said, “Owen, please don’t leave,” were shared on X by the team’s social media account.
It was a happy moment for the young man, lifted up by Farrell and consoled by the travelling Saracens supporters.
The heartfelt plea comes amid reports that the England skipper is poised to sign a two-year deal with the
French Top 14 heavyweights, maybe bringing an end to his brilliant England international career.
After the 2023–24 season, Farrell is reportedly thinking about joining former England head coach Stuart Lancaster at Racing 92, according to a story from Midi Olympique on Friday.
Before the Guinness Six Nations tournament, Farrell announced he would be taking a break from Steve Borthwick’s England team. He is almost done with his contract at Saracens, the only team he has played professionally for.
With 1,237 points and 112 caps for England, Farrell decided to put his family’s mental health first after hearing constant jeers from spectators at the Rugby World Cup in France last fall. An
Farrell would join a super-star lineup at Racing 92, which features Henry Arundell, an England teammate, and Rugby World Cup winner Siya Kolisi.
“We saw that again today. He [Owen Farell] is very good at putting distractions to one side and just doing his best for the team,” Saracens director of rugby Mark McCall responded when asked about their star standoff following the loss.
In response, McCall remarked, “You’d have to ask them,” and then said, “Really, it’s just not fair for anyone to talk about something that, like I said before the game, is speculation.” Just put, nobody is treated fairly. We won’t talk about anything unless there is something worth talking about.
