Juventus sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli has played down talks of the Serie A club making a move for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, suggesting that the Italian side are not particularly keen on adding the Tottenham man or any other player to their squad.
Over the past few weeks, a few Italian outlets have suggested that Juventus is eager to acquire Hojbjerg’s services.
This includes a report from Tuttosport (via Sport Witness) from a little more than a week ago, indicating that Spurs are open to loaning the Dane to Juventus—so long as the agreement includes a buyout clause of €30 million (£26 million) for the player come summertime.
According to the outlet, the Bianconeri would rather have the option to purchase than be forced to, and they could be able to get around the obstacle by pitching Matias Soule or Samuel Iling-Junior to Tottenham.
But at the beginning of this week, TuttoMercatoWeb said that Juventus would have a “uphill road” to negotiate a deal for the Dane during this month’s transfer window since the Premier League team’s £26 million asking price is “too high.”
Gazzetta dello Sport even hinted a few days ago that the Italian team would wait to pursue the 28-year-old until the summer transfer window of the next year.
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg to Juventus is not likely
Giuntoli has now stated in the open that Massimiliano Allegri’s team isn’t currently all that interested in signing Hojbjerg.
According to Fabricio Romano, the director of Juventus remarked, “Kalvin Phillips or Pierre-Emile Højbjerg? We currently don’t see any opportunities from a technological or economical standpoint.
“We only look for the right opportunities and we can’t see anyone as of right now. We are not forced to sign a new player.”
It is obvious that Giuntoli would not publicly admit that Juventus are keen on Hojbjerg as the Italian club’s aim would be to drive the midfielder’s price down. However, it is clear that the Bianconeri would have to sell some players to raise funds for a potential move for the Spurs midfielder.
