Arthur Vermeeren reportedly has ‘admirers’ at Tottenham Hotspur after an impressive campaign at Royal Antwerp.
That’s according to 90 Min, which asserts that Tottenham could be looking to add a new midfield player.
Next month, Ange Postecoglou will lose two important midfield players as Pape Matar Sarr and Yves Bissouma go for AFCON 2024.
Conor Gallagher of Chelsea has been strongly connected to Spurs, raising the possibility that they may yet attempt to add a new midfield player. However, other names have been floated, and the Premier League is showing a lot of interest in Arthur Vermeeren.
In fact, Arsenal, Tottenham’s opponent in North London, has reportedly expressed interest in Vermeeren as well.
And it seems that Spurs have been impressed with the 18-year-old’s displays for Royal Antwerp.
Tottenham want Vermeeren
According to 90 Minutes, Vermeeren has “admirers” at Spurs because of his performances for Royal Antwerp, which have pleased the North Londoners.
Vermeeren won’t come cheap, though, as Arsenal and Barcelona are both reportedly interested.
In 31 games this season, the 18-year-old has showed promise with six goals and two assists. He scored a goal against Barcelona in the group stages of the Champions League, which made him very outstanding.
Toby Alderweireld, a former Spurs player, has called Vermeeren a young player with “enormous potential.”
Of course, Alderweireld currently plays alongside Vermeeren at Antwerp and has clearly been impressed with his compatriot.
The Belgian has a bright future ahead of him and at just 18, he’s already attracting admiring glances from Europe’s top sides.
But it would be a surprise to see Spurs spend big to land the midfielder next month. It’s no secret they will prioritise a move for a new centre-back due to Micky van de Ven’s injury.
While Vermeeren is clearly a talented player, it would take a sizeable fee to lure him away from Belgium in January.
