Sad News – West Ham might losing major signing to Top Pl rivals as player turns down two ‘fair’ bids from Hammers
Kalvin Phillips would be very keen on a move to Newcastle, although a move to Tottenham or West Ham may be better suited to him according to Dean Jones.
This follows Pep Guardiola’s declaration that he would not obstruct the midfield player’s desire to depart Manchester City in January. [October 20, The Guardian]
In an interview with GIVEMESPORT on December 14, Jones expressed his opinion, saying, “He has other options open to him.” I believe he is really excited about the Newcastle concept.
“But, there are other places that might be better suited for him if you have teams like Tottenham and West Ham potentially knocking on the door.”
West Ham should be in the queue
The Hammers cannot pass up the chance to recruit a player of Phillips’ caliber, even though the center of midfield isn’t exactly an issue position at the London Stadium with players like James Ward-Prowse, Thomas Soucek, and Edson Alvarez filling such duties so frequently.
Notwithstanding his difficulties after relocating to Manchester, Phillips’ continuous inclusion in Gareth Southgate’s England team is evidence of his talent, and if he can replicate his Leeds performance, he would be a great asset to Moyes’ club.
Given the relative sizes of the clubs, Phillips might find possibilities from Tottenham or Newcastle more enticing, but the fact that West Ham is playing in Europe while Tottenham did not qualify and Newcastle was eliminated could present a chance.
They should move to the front of the line and make sure they are well-positioned to bring the England international to East London in January if a deal can be made.
