Forgotten Springboks winger keen to build on fast start at Stormers

New Stormers acquisition Courtnall Skosan is determined to build on his impressive start for the men from the Cape during their United Rugby Championship (URC) tour of Europe.

The former Lions and Northampton Saints flyer made his debut for the Cape Town team against the Scarlets in Round Two, and he made an instant impression by crossing for a try after replacing him in the 52-7 triumph in Stellenbosch.

Valuable addition to the Stormers ranks

The Stormers’ next game against Glasgow Warriors did not feature Skosan, who played for the Springboks in 12 Tests in 2017. However, he has shown to be a crucial addition to head coach John Dobson’s side as he adds a wealth of knowledge to a youthful and promising Stormers backline.

The 32-year-old finisher, who has an abundance of speed, is eager to contribute to the Stormers, who are trying to get back on track after suffering a setback against the Warriors.

“Getting an opportunity to represent the jersey and the city of Cape Town was special,” he told the Stormers’ official website of his first outing. “The boys made it special for me, and I’m grateful for that.

“My game complements our backline and the way we approach the game. We think alike when it comes to how we see and want to play rugby. I’m enjoying that. And the crazy thing is that we are growing weekly. That’s always a good sign.”

Despite that defeat to the Warriors, Skosan hailed his team’s resilience in that encounter and believes they will bounce back in their next match against Benetton in Treviso on Saturday.

“Every game in this competition is a tough one, and especially playing opponents away from home,” he said. “We were just unfortunate with a few calls and opportunities we had in the second half.

We’re going to get better from now on. We are aware of our capabilities as we engage in our game.

Skosan emphasized the value of adjusting to their environment while maintaining concentration during their European tour.

“In Europe, things are shifting every day. Our main goal for this week is to improve our performance and concentrate on the things we can control on the field, the player stated.

“Benetton is a high-caliber team, and you should appreciate that.” This weekend is the next step for us; we know where we want to go. Our only thought is to perform to the best of our abilities.

Facing unbeaten opponents

Together with table-toppers Connacht and reigning champions Munster, their Italian opponents are one of just three undefeated teams remaining in the URC after three games. They are also riding high following a thrilling tight victory at home against the Lions.

Skosan went on, “They are a very well-coached team.” “We’ve examined their strategy and will make sure we’re covered.”

“over us, the most crucial thing is to concentrate on implementing what we have been working on nonstop over the past several months.

“We’ll do everything in our power to ensure that we give ourselves the best chance of achieving the intended outcome.”
