Pundit says Spurs sold the best player in the world in his position for just £20m
Don Hutchinson believes that Kieran Trippier is currently the best right-back in the world.
Trippier spent four seasons at Spurs after moving there from Burnley in the summer of 2015. During that time, he excelled as a right-back and even earned a spot in the England squad.
He saw a dramatic decline, though, in his final season with Spurs, when numerous of Mauricio Pochettino’s team’s goals were lost due to his defensive errors.
Trippier finally signed for Atletico Madrid for just £20 million (BBC), where he developed his defensive skills under Diego Simeone’s guidance and contributed significantly to the team’s title triumph in 2020–21.

Since joining Newcastle United in January of last year, the former Tottenham player has emerged as one of the Premier League’s top right backs.
The Magpies star was included in Hutchinson’s current Team of the Season, and he noted that he is the best player in the world at his position. “Best right-back in the world of football, Trippier,” he said to ESPN FC.
James Maddison, Destiny Udogie, and Micky van de Ven were three of the eleven players mentioned by the commentator from Tottenham.
Tripper has undoubtedly advanced much over the past several years, and in retrospect, we can argue that Pochettino erred in approving the England international’s departure back in 2019.

But off the field, he doesn’t seem to have changed at all.Speaking German helped the two of them get along at first, according to Kevin Wimmer. And despite Son’s extraordinary success in North London, they have remained close ever since.
It was advantageous for him to have a language-compatible partner. His English wasn’t great at first, either, and we did a lot of things together. After training, we would go out to dinner or explore the city together, he said, according to The Athletic.
“After I departed, he remained the same. Every season, he improved further, but his mindset remained the same. He never changed; he was always the same. That is why we remain in contact. It’s unusual to have a character like this at his level. He truly is among the greatest.
Spurs captain is the perfect representative for the club
Son is a fantastic ambassador for Tottenham. He is undoubtedly a terrific footballer with the potential to rank among the team’s all-time greatest players.
But the 31-year-old is rarely the subject of drama. You never hear anything bad about his life off the field, for sure.
Being told that Wimmer still sees the same person he first saw almost ten years ago is fantastic.
He certainly serves as an excellent role model for athletes hoping to succeed in the Premier League.
