Piers Morgan doubles down on Mikel Arteta ‘humiliation’ claim after Tottenham draw
Mikel Arteta made another bold call when it came to Aaron Ramsdale’s place in the Arsenal side against Tottenham with Gunners fan Piers Morgan since offering his view on the situation
Mikel Arteta has come under fire from Piers Morgan once more for ‘humiliating’ Aaron Ramsdale by signing David Raya.
The former Sheffield United and Bournemouth player has recently seen himself drop in importance at Arsenal. The last three games, he came off the bench to replace Raya, who now seems to be Arteta’s starting quarterback.
Ramsdale appears ready to start the Gunners’ Carabao Cup third-round match against Raya’s parent club Brentford on Wednesday. Despite this, Arsenal supporter Morgan has stated that Ramsdale’s involvement in the incident is disgraceful and that Raya is not a superior goalkeeper.
I don’t like the goalie position, he wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter. I don’t think it’s a good idea, and I have no idea how people are thinking. Arteta promised to rotate them, but he hasn’t done so.
“Raya made one outstanding save against Spurs, but he contributed to the opening goal. I noticed Ramsdale applauding him on the save, but I don’t understand why he was demoted and why he is being treated so poorly.
“Arteta must choose a No. 1 and maintain that position. It hurts the defense team. Although I think Raya is excellent, I don’t think Ramsdale, who was a key player last season, has changed all that much.
Prior to the 1-0 victory at Everton, Morgan had criticized Arteta for his initial choice to substitute Raya for Ramsdale, claiming that Arteta had “humiliated” the former Sheffield United and Bournemouth goalkeeper.
He is not the only person who has voiced concern about the goalkeeping situation at Arsenal right now. According to former Liverpool player Jamie Carragher, if Ramsdale is unable to force himself back into the lineup, he may have to find a new team.
“I think he [Ramsdale] will be [leaving in January], if he got the chance at a decent club and Arsenal were happy with that,” he remarked in a Sky Sports interview. He hasn’t performed poorly for Arsenal. He has performed much better than many people anticipated.
“I believe Arsenal will consider it and believe they can get a few pounds for him. It can be a January-related occurrence.
Raya, the replacement for Ramsdale, has three games under his belt for Arsenal and has so far kept clean sheets against PSV Eindhoven and Everton. In his five appearances for the Gunners thus far this season across all competitions, Ramsdale has one clean sheet.
The newly signed contract, which the four-time England goalie only signed back in August, has three years remaining with the possibility of an additional season.
