Neither Jose Mourinho nor Antonio Conte enjoyed success in the Tottenham dugout and club chairman Daniel Levy has now confessed he was mistaken to appoint them both

Daniel Levy, the chairman of Tottenham, has acknowledged that he was wrong to bring in Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte to the team.

With celebrated managers like Mourinho and Conte unable to break the club’s trophy drought while also causing substantial rifts with the fan base and playing squad, Spurs have experienced significant turmoil in recent seasons.

In April 2021, Mourinho was fired from the team. Less than two years later, Spurs fired Conte on concerns about the team’s performance and general direction under the Italian. Ryan Mason served as temporary manager at that time, while Nuno Espirito Santo had a brief tenure.

With 13 points from their first five Premier League games, including the victory against Manchester United, the new Spurs manager, Ange Postecoglou, has had a remarkable start to life in north London.

Now, Levy has clarified that it was a “mistake” to name Mourinho and Conte, calling them “trophy managers” who lacked a sense of connection and identification with the team. Despite not having the profile of his predecessors, Postecoglou has a strong resume and, because to his approach, was able to quickly build relationships with the club’s supporters.

I want to win just as badly as everyone else, Levy said. the pressure from possibly certain players and a significant portion of the fan base that we need to win, we need to spend money, we need to have a big manager, a big name; the frustration of not succeeding.

The head of Tottenham added, “And that touched me. We employed the tactic of hiring a trophy manager twice. You must draw lessons from your errors. Although they are excellent managers, maybe not for this team.
