NATIONAL MEDIA WERE DAZZLED BY £25M SPURS PLAYER BEFORE CRUSHING DEFEAT
Tottenham Hotspur winger Dejan Kulusevski endured a mixed night as Sweden were beaten 3-1 at home by Austria on Tuesday night.
Tuesday night, Dejan Kulusevski blew hot and cold in a significant loss as Sweden was defeated by Austria.
It was only necessary for Sweden to defeat Austria after their weekend crushing of Estonia.
That didn’t happen, though, as Austria sprinted to a 3-0 lead, with all three goals surrendered inside the first 16 minutes of the second half.’B
Emil Holm managed to give Sweden a small advantage, but Ralf Rangnick’s Austria easily defeated them in Stockholm.
Dejan Kulusevski thinks it’s over for Sweden
Sweden’s prospects of making it to Euro 2024 were in jeopardy as they entered the game four points behind Austria in Group F.
Sweden just could not afford to lose; even a draw would have preserved the dream.
With only three games remaining after a 3-1 loss, Sweden is now seven points behind Austria and Belgium and demands a complete miracle.
Dejan Kulusevski, a winger for Tottenham, told TV2 that he believes Sweden’s chances of qualifying are basically over.
Kulusevski didn’t think the situation looked too good even after that win over Estonia but has now seemingly given up hope of qualifying for Euro 2024.
“It didn’t look bright before this match, but now I think it’s over,” said Kulusevski.
Swedish media react to mixed Kulusevski display
Kulusevski was receiving a ton of accolades over the weekend because, in the opinion of the Swedish media, he gave one of his best performances while wearing yellow and blue.
However, the current atmosphere is somewhat different because Sweden’s dreams for the Euro 2024 effectively vanished.
Kulusevski, according to Fotboll Skanalen, was a “extremely good” player in the first half and appeared dangerous moving forward.
They berated Kulusevski, though, for trying to dribble too much in the middle of the field, which allowed Austria to counterattack and score on one of those attacks to make it 2-0.
Kulusevski, according to Svenska Fans, was ‘fantastic’ in the opening period but drastically lost his edge after the intermission.
Kulusevski and company didn’t have a good night; the £25 million Spurs winger will likely try to have a better weekend with Tottenham.
