Cristian Romero has started this season for Tottenham in fine fettle.
The Argentine has been a commanding force at the back, while he’s also chipped in going forwards with two goals so far.
Romero is currently playing the best football of his career for Tottenham, and after accusations that he reserves the majority of his standout performances for the international stage, we were certainly interested to see how he performed for Argentina during this international break.
Romero was outstanding for the world champions in a 1-0 victory over Ecuador on Thursday night, and his manager showered him with praise following the game.
After Romero’s performance for Argentina, Lionel Scaloni said he was at a loss for words and couldn’t express his admiration for the 25-year-old’s performance.
Romero incredible
In his post-game presser, Scaloni praised the Tottenham player.
“I am speechless over the match Cuti Romero played. People encourage him during the home games, and he starts to believe he can run 70 meters. He is a strong center defender, and he had an outstanding performance, according to Scaloni.
Keep it up
Romero may be playing the finest football of his career right now, and if he can keep it up, Spurs may soon be in contention for major awards.
Of course, consistency is the essential word here, and Romero has had far too much trouble with it.
Romero’s vivacious personality makes him a superb defender, but it may occasionally derail him. He can be enjoying the game of his life only to be dismissed moments later.
Fortunately, that hasn’t happened yet this season—he hasn’t even committed a foul—so hopefully he’s grown as a defender and will be able to find some consistency.
