Fighting words from the Cape Town Spurs CEO who wants to protect the value of his prized assets.
Cape Town Spurs CEO Ari Efstathiou is fuming at how Kaizer Chiefs are low-balling the Mother City side over Asanele Velebayi.
CAPE TOWN SPURS CEO UNHAPPY WITH KAIZER CHIEFS
“Yes, an offer was indeed made,” Spurs boss Efstathiou told Kickoff.
“If you wanna keep by the rules, you don’t contact the players directly. That’s the first thing. So, a club like Chiefs should not be contacting players directly. The club’s got a contract with the player. He’s still got three more years.
“We do have a good relationship with Chiefs. I’m not fighting with Chiefs. It’s only people who are outside and have nothing to do with this who are fighting. They say Cape Town Spurs is standing in the way of players, but they are not saying Chiefs is standing in the way of players.
“He’s a versatile player, so we must sell him for whatever just because the player and his mommy decide he wants to move. Is this a joke? Otherwise, we are making football a joke in this country now.”
ARE THE PLAYER’S PARENTS TRYING TO FORCE A MOVE?
According to iDiski Times, Chiefs have seen a second offer for Cape Town Spurs winger Asanele Velebayi rejected. To add further spice to the equation, Velebayi’s parents have intervened to try and force through a move for their son. He was only promoted from the Spurs academy in October last year.

18-year-old Nkosana Mbuthu is a lanky, skilful winger with a sweet left foot and plenty of tricks, flicks and flair in his repertoire. He was recently played out of position at left-back in the 4-0 friendly defeat to Yanga but new coach Nasreddine Nabi defended his choice to field the rookie in an unfamiliar role. We could see a lot more of the talented trickster this season but it should be in a more familiar attacking role.

Kaizer Chiefs finished the 2023-2024 league campaign in tenth position, their worst placing in the history of the DStv Premiership. Their last league title came back in 2015, their most recent piece of major silverware. They begin the new 2024-2025 Betway Premiership campaign away to Marumo Gallants on 14 September.
