‘HE LIFTS THE FANS’… PAUL MERSON SERIOUSLY IMPRESSED BY ‘FANTASTIC’ TOTTENHAM PLAYER

Paul Merson has given his verdict on Tottenham Hotspur attacking midfielder James Maddison.

The former Arsenal star has noted how Maddison’s return from injury is going to help Tottenham.

So, what has Paul Merson said about Tottenham Hotspur playmaker James Maddison? Let’s take a look.

Paul Merson praises Tottenham Hotspur playmaker James Maddison

Well, Paul Merson has given his verdict on James Maddison. The former Arsenal star and Sky Sports pundit has said that the England international attacking midfielder is like a new signing for Spurs.

Maddison has just come back from injury. The playmaker, who joined Tottenham from Leicester City in the summer of 2023, started for Spurs against Brentford in the Premier League on Wednesday evening.

Merson has also predicted how the Premier League match between Everton and Tottenham this weekend will pan out.

Everton and Spurs will face each other at Goodison Park in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

Merson told SportsKeeda: “Everton are suddenly in the relegation zone, so this is a crucial game for them. Tottenham had a great 10-15 minute spell to turn the game on its head against Brentford, but the way they play, they tend to leave a lot of open space at the back.

“This is a really interesting game of football and judging by the way Tottenham play, I think we’re going to see a few goals. James Maddison’s return has been a big boost for them – it’s as good as a January signing for Ange Postecoglou.

“You can see the way he lifts the fans and everyone around him – he was fantastic against Brentford after the manager put him in the hole behind Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison in the second half. I can see a lorry load of goals here, so I’m going for a 2-2 draw.

“Prediction: Everton 2-2 Tottenham Hotspur.”

My View: James Maddison a big player for Tottenham

In my opinion, James Maddison is one of the best English playmakers around and is a big player for Tottenham Hotspur. Joe Cole rates him highly.

For Tottenham to finish in the top four of the Premier League table or even challenge for the title this season, the 27-year-old playmaker will have to be on top of his game.

Maddison has scored three goals and given five assists in 12 Premier League matches for Spurs so far in his career.

The England international has made 175 appearances in the Premier League so far in his career. Maddison has scored 46 goals and given 37 assists in those games.
