“I have my doubts…” – Pundit honest over potential Tottenham deal, worried about player’s ‘frame of mind’
In the last week or two, there have been more and more reports that Bayern Munich is interested in Eric Dier from Tottenham Hotspur because they need some assistance in the back.
On paper, it makes sense because the England international’s contract expires at the end of the current campaign and he would be inexpensive, but there is optimism that the Bavarian team will perform better.
Didi Hamann expressed his opinions to Sky Germany regarding Dier’s potential departure from Tottenham and transfer to Bayern.
“I have my doubts as to whether he’ll help Bayern,” he remarked. Four or five years ago, he went through a pretty good phase in which he was a vital member of the national team.
Hamann backs this up by pointing out that Dier hasn’t played all that much under Ange Postecoglou this season at Tottenham, making a mere four appearances to date.
However, he does believe that a fully fit player could be of use to the Bundesliga giants, because he is everything they need on paper.
He added: “He’s strong in a tackle, strong on the ball, very disciplined. Whether he’s in the right frame of mind to
aid Bayern at this time is uncertain. It takes two to three months to get back into the groove if you haven’t played in six months or haven’t played much at all.
“This season, he’s supposed to help them; if he needs two or three months, the season is almost over.” This is the reason I’m worried.
Harry Kane would undoubtedly help Bayern settle in, but as Hamman points out, it’s unclear if the team is willing to take a chance on the Tottenham player, who may first find it difficult to make the kind of effect that is wanted.
