‘That is remarkable’: Chris Sutton reacts after hearing who Tottenham could sign now

Conor Gallagher has been strongly linked with a move to Tottenham as of late.

With the January transfer market fully open, we can expect to hear more and more rumors about the Chelsea midfielder, who is reportedly a target for the Spurs.

Chris Sutton, who has been talking about the possibility of Gallagher moving to north London on the It’s All Kicking Off Podcast, expressed his surprise at the rumor and said that it would be absolutely incredible if Tottenham were able to sign one of Chelsea’s top players

The pundit shared his verdict on this potential move.

“That is remarkable that we’re talking about one of Chelsea’s best players moving to Tottenham in a January transfer window. It shouldn’t work that way around really, when was the last time something like this happened? I honestly can’t think of it. It’s staggering to think of the Chelsea captain moving to Tottenham,” Sutton said.

Remarkable

As Sutton says, this would be a remarkable move.

Tottenham really don’t do deals like this.

When was the last time Spurs acquired a star player from one of their reputed “big six” competitors? You’re undoubtedly searching all the way back to 1997, when they signed Les Ferdinand and David Ginola from Newcastle, who were heavyweights at the time, but even then, the Premier League was a completely different place.

Although Tottenham doesn’t typically engage in similar transactions, given their apparent increased ambition and Chelsea’s significant decline in popularity over the last 18 months, it’s not that absurd to think that Spurs may sign one of Chelsea’s top players.

It’s unclear if Gallagher will take this action, but if he does, it may
