‘Has to be’: Tim Sherwood now says Arsenal have a midfielder who is better than James Maddison

The north London derby is one week away, and anticipation for this game is already high.

Both Arsenal and Tottenham have had outstanding starts to this season, and conversation and controversy surrounding these two teams have already begun.

Tim Sherwood was asked on the No Tippy Tappy Football Podcast how many Spurs players would make the current Arsenal team, and surprise, he found it difficult to name even one.

James Maddison came the closest, but even then, Sherwood had to concede that he thinks Martin Odegaard is the better player at this moment in time.

Odegaard better than Maddison

Sherwood discussed the two playmakers.

“At the moment, I don’t see anyone who stands out and joins the team. Vicario I’m not sure because I don’t know enough about him, but he got off to a great start. Son, who do you leave out, I wondered? Saka? Martinelli? Odegaard must be in the team and starts in Maddison’s place. At Leicester, we seen Maddison go through these phases. He has better players surrounding him now, so ideally he can keep playing regularly as he is. However, Sherwood is unsure of how to accommodate him at the present because Odegaard must come in ahead of him.

Catching up

Over the past 12 months, Odegaard has performed better than Madison, however it must be acknowledged that Madison is catching up quickly in this area.

For Spurs, Maddison has indeed had an outstanding start to the season. He is undoubtedly the finest player in the league, and if he maintains this level of play for a few more months, the contest will be much tighter.

We can’t wait to watch the matchup between these two athletes next week because they are both highly good.
